In a presentation at the new Mount Meru Hotel, EACCIA’s director, Olive Kigongo, said the body would help East Africa lobby for creation of a conducive environment for crossborder trade and investment within the context of the East African Customs Union.
“The chamber will hold dialogue with various organs of East Africa, the governments as well as international institutions,†Kigongo said.
She said the chamber aims at being an effective private sector partner in business development in East Africa.
Kigongo said the chamber also wants to enhance business growth through quality services like business information, networking, promotion of innovations and development services.
EACCIA’s board comprises presidents of commerce chambers in the three countries and at least two elected officials from each chamber.
The minister for East African corporation, Andrew Chenge, said, “The private sector in the region is determined to play a leading role in implementing the various protocols that have been put in place.â€
