MANY streets in Kabale town have flooded due to the poor drainage and sewerage systems and heavy rains.
Some of the affected areas are Shell Petrol Station located near the taxi park that has been abandoned because it floods whenever it rains.

Most streets have become impassable and the congested town with narrow roads is thrown into confusion as several cyclists struggle to wade through the floods.

Other affected areas are the National Bank of Commerce, Centenary Rural Development Bank, Bank of Uganda and Post Bank, all on the main street.

The town clerk, Johnson Munono, on Monday admitted the town would for some time continue to suffer from floods due to an outdated drainage system that was designed in the 1950s.

“We are designing a master plan of the town and the drainage system but it may take some time to be implemented due to lack of funds,” Munono said.

He said short-term interventions to stop the floods had not worked and they had resorted to a long-term plan.

National Water and Sewerage officials in Kabale said due to a poor drainage system whenever there is a downpour, rain water ends up in their sewerage system, hence flooding the lagoons.
