KATIKKIRO Dan Muliika has scoffed at the Government for insisting on an elected Katikkiro, saying the decision only lies with the Baganda.
“I am accountable to the Kabaka and the Baganda. It is they who hired me. If they feel I am not worthy, they can push for an elected Katikkiro,” he said.
Muliika attacked people insisting on an elected Katikkiro on claims that the Baganda have elected one before.
He said Baganda only voted for the Katikkiro in 1955 and 1962.
“Eighty county representatives and six Kabaka appointees voted after the Kabaka consented with his subject’s plea. There was no Langi, Munyoro, Etesot or Mukiga who voted. Why should all Ugandans vote to decide for Buganda,” the angry Muliika asked.
He was addressing Baganda students at Uganda Christian University in Mukono on Saturday, where he swore in new leaders.
