THE UPDF has paid five months salary arrears for the Teso-based Arrow Group force.

The 3rd Division public relations officer, Lt. Henry Obbo, said the salary arrears paid over a three-month period included money for the months of May, June, July, August and September.

Obbo said the arrears were paid alongside the salaries for the months of January, February and March.

“In January, we paid salary arrears for May, June and July while that for August and September was paid in February and March respectively,” Obbo said.

Discontent over the delayed payment of salary arrears for the Arrow Group militia was identified as one of the reasons that led to a vote against President Yoweri Museveni and the pro-NRM candidates in the Teso region during the just-concluded presidential, parliamentary and local council elections.

Obbo said Stanbic Bank Soroti branch had established a mobile unit to assist Arrow Group militia to open up bank accounts to ease salary reception.

“The bank’s mobile team is moving to all the units, taking photographs and other particulars to facilitate the members opening accounts,” he said.
