Peace be with you all

DEAR countrymen, during this season of Easter, it is not easy to think of a better greeting than the one which the Risen Lord used when he appeared to his disciples: he wished them peace. This is why I once again say to you: “Peace be with you”(Jn. 20:19).

DEAR countrymen, during this season of Easter, it is not easy to think of a better greeting than the one which the Risen Lord used when he appeared to his disciples: he wished them peace. This is why I once again say to you: “Peace be with you”(Jn. 20:19).

May I join you, fellow Ugandans, to thank God who in his loving kindness has brought us to these joyous days of Easter. I feel grateful to him for guiding us safely through these three months which have been months of vigorous activities affecting our individual lives and the life of our Nation. I know that this has been a very turbulent period. The way we have conducted ourselves throughout these months proves to the world that Ugandans are peace loving people. I congratulate you and I thank you.

The days of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus the Saviour are a very good occasion of reflecting on a New Life; a new life, not only for each individual person, but also for reflecting on a new life in our nation. In these recent months we Ugandans and the rest of the world have witnessed so much of what must be considered unacceptable in a respectable modern society. We have witnessed much that carries us back to the time of Christ: the way he was condemned, tortured and killed on the cross. Ugandans have a big task ahead, the task of bringing about reconciliation; it is reconciliation which will bring us peace.

As we joyously celebrate Easter in this very special time in the history of our country, I warmly greet President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with all our civil leaders. You bear much of the responsibility of bringing about reconciliation, peace and prosperity that Ugandans are thirsty for. The Northern and Eastern regions of Uganda need your special attention. May the celebration of the freedom the Risen Lord gave to humanity be the beginning of the freedom of the internally displaced people in the camps and of the young night commuters. On you rests the task of reconciling the various groupings of Ugandans. I wish you the peace and joy of this season.

I warmly greet His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Kabaka of Buganda, the Nabagereka and all the royal family. May the Risen Lord abide in your midst and fill you with joy and peace.

My heartfelt greetings go to all the people of this nation. May the
resurrection of the Saviour be a constant and inexhaustible source of peace in your hearts, in your families and in your relationships with one another. May it be a source of peace, joy and prosperity in our nation.

Alleluia, He is Risen as he said.
