Parliament to mourn Kenyan MPs

PARLIAMENT on wednesday passed a resolution paying tribute to the six fallen Kenyan MPs, including seven others who died in a tragic plane crash, with legislators calling upon the East African governments to strengthen safety precautions in the aircraft sector.

PARLIAMENT on wednesday passed a resolution paying tribute to the six fallen Kenyan MPs, including seven others who died in a tragic plane crash, with legislators calling upon the East African governments to strengthen safety precautions in the aircraft sector.

MPs who contributed to a motion moved by Kampala district MP Margaret Zziwa noted that following the frequent air accidents in the region, there was need to improve the aircraft visibility technology.

MPs Mirungi Kariuki, the deputy minister for internal affairs, Titus Ngoyoni, the deputy minister for regional development, Bonaya Godana, the deputy leader of the official opposition, Abdi Sasura, Garacha Galgallo, Abdullahi Adan, a member of the East African Parliament, Peter Kingola a district commissioner and seven others on a crew perished in a plane crash on April 10 in northern Kenya.

Zziwa said the deceased who were on a vital mission to reconcile warring clans, were valuable people to their constituencies and to the Kenyan national assembly.

Parliament Speaker Edward Ssekandi sent a condolence message to his counterpart Francis Kaparo.
Prime minister Prof. Apolo Nsibambi conveyed condolences on behalf of the government.

“The bible says blessed are the peace makers for they will inherit the kingdom of God,” Nsibambi said.
