WINDOWS are primarily to bring in light
and air. Secondly, they may add quality to the architectural design of the building although sometimes they may do the reverse! They may be in all kinds of shapes; squares or arches. They therefore must be treated individually. It is easy to believe that using curtains is the solution of dressing the window.

This is not the case because the function of the window may be disrupted by hanging a fabric on it. You could have a fairly dark room open to your neighbours through the window such that you you have privacy without cutting off the outside light.

In such an instance a lattice screen or Venetian blind, set of long flat bars of plastic or wood or metal, which can be raised or lowered to cover a window, may provide the privacy and light into the room.

Windows high up on the wall or sky lights do not need covering after all they are too high for someone to interrupt one’s privacy.

Arched windows are coming into fashion. Before, they were left for churches! They are beautiful, but can be difficult to deal with. A number I have seen are way up on the wall that they do not need to be dressed.

However, if you have low-arched windows you may hang a blind or café curtain to cover the straight sides of the window, leaving the arched top free or preferably hang the curtains high above the arch to fall right to the floor.
