MOHAMMAD Abbas bid an emotional farewell to Ugandan football Saturday night before departing for Egypt and urged whoever replaces him to take ‘good care’ of the foundation he laid.
Reports are rife that Serbian-born Tomislav Sivic could be the ultimate choice for the Cranes seat that fell vacant following Abbas’ dismissal in March.
Abbas, who left the country at 4am Sunday, after receiving a compensation package of US$7030 and sh0.5m, said: “It is only sad I have not had the chance of meeting my players with whom I worked with. They were committed group I strongly believe will lift Uganda in future, I hope they are helped,” he asserted.
“I was sacked unfairly but I look forward to better challenges,” Abbas, who took over Cranes on September 20 2004, added.
The Egyptian said he would take some great memories with him from Uganda.
The good, he said, were David Obua’s equaliser against South Africa that earned him a contract with Kaizer Chiefs, a gamble with goalkeeper Posnet Omwony in Johannesburg that paid off and saw the player sign for Bloemfontein Celtics.
