AMINA Kibone had a nightmarish welcome from the Commonwealth Games from Amina Namaganda, who stopped her at the Makerere Open Table Tennis championship over the weekend.
Namaganda, who had earlier watched as her Mbale Tigers team mate Ronald Mango was denied the cadet boy’s title by Nakasero’s Moses Kamoga, was on top form coming from two games down to beat Nabumali High’s Kibone 3-2 in the Girls’ U-18 team event.
“She is just good,” is all that former top seed Mary Musoke could say about Namaganda’s performance. Musoke retired a couple of years ago after representing Uganda in various international competitions.
Saturday’s win helped Tigers, that also had Marcy Nabusano and Rebecca Akiten take the U-18 girls’ team event title. Nabumali had Kibone, Eva Nabulondera and Lydia Namaye.
The boys’ team event was still being played in the Fotogenix sponsored event.
The tournament ends today with the open finals.
