If you look at the most successful clubs in Europe like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich,
AC Milan and Juventus they all come from big cities and are usually the pride of almost everyone who comes from there.

The passion they generate goes beyond just football. Almost everyone who comes from Liverpool supports either Liverpool FC or the other local team, Everton. The pattern is the same in all the other cities. London on the other hand has a host of clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Wimbledon, Charlton, West Ham and Fulham.

It should not be surprising therefore that despite the size of London, the city has not produced a truly European giant yet!

Kampala is much smaller but surprisingly has about ten clubs in the Ugandan top flight football. Some clubs may not even have 100 fans! How do we expect to compete with the Soweto giants Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando pirates?

In the last 20 years alone I have seen the mushrooming and collapsing of clubs. I think they all collapse because they don’t have a sizeable fan base or any fans at all.

It is time to think of a real giant in Kampala United.
