ARMY side Simba put up a solid all-round performance to deny table leaders Express maximum points in a pulsating Super League goalless draw at Nakivubo yesterday.
Simba defenders Sulaiman Ssebunza and Derrick Walulya neutralised Express forwards Hassan Mubiru and Tony Odur in a game league top-scorer Geoffrey Wakaza could do little to change matters, having come off the bench with just 10 minutes remaining. Wakaza had just recovered from a bout of malaria.
At Mbale Municipal stadium, Hussein Mbalangu’s strike after recess helped gritty Heroes to a 1-1 draw with visiting Maji F.C.
Mbalangu headed in the equaliser off a corner kick by Sande Mukiibi on 52 minutes.
The visitors had earlier taken the lead through Fred Kalandi in a goal-mouth melee.
* Arthur Bukenya, the referee appointed to officiate tomorrow’s explosive replay between giants KCC FC and SC Villa, insists the game will end peacefully.
Bukenya was appointed alongside fellow FIFA assistant referees Ali Tomusange and Nelson Mubanda to control the fixture that was abandoned on April 7 due to indecision by referee Haruna Kebba.
Mohammad Ssegonga is the fourth official.
“In the 18 years I have officiated matches, I have never had any game abandoned. I am used to big games and this game will also end,†Bukenya said.
Reports say that the two clubs have also been given a share of the gate collection from the abandoned match. The two clubs had protested FUFA’s decision to retain the entire sh7m gate collection.
