MOSES Kipsiro will have a chance to improve on his 3000m national record when he takes part in the continental grand prix meet in Dakar, Senegal on Saturday.

The athlete, who has not run a 3000m race since setting the record of 7:44.57 in Zagreb in July last year, will be looking at the grand prix to improve on his time.

This will be his first international meet after taking part in the Commonwealth Games and World Cross Country Championships in Melbourne and Fukouka respectively.

“He has been training hard. It is good that he gets such competitions to get more of the international exposure,” said his Ugandan manager Godfrey Nuwagaba. Organisers will carter for all expenses to the West African city.

UAF secretary Beatrice Ayikoru said that the grand prix is one of the five created by the African Athletics Confederation (CAA) in order to improve athletics on the continent.

“It’s the first time we are having a Grand Prix in Africa. They are five in total and they will surely give Africans more chance to improve,” said Ayikoru.
Meanwhile, Wilson Busienei continued with his form, this time winning the Ponte Road Race in Fiore, Italy.

“He is improving. I am sure he will be able to take on the World best as time goes on,” said Busienei’s country manager Flavio Pasqualato.
