Please pay pension arrears!

SIR — The retired civil servants look forward to President Museveni’s new government with the hope that, unlike the previous one, we will be considered and paid all the arrears due to us. Some pensioners have been paid by the Ministry of Public Service using a formula that cannot easily be explained. Surely, all pensioners need to be liberated and not kept in suspense without clear explanation. The people to whom pension arrears are due, faithfully served the government of Uganda but sadly, some have passed on without being paid! Is that fair or reasonable? The government should not wait for senior citizens to call for a public demonstration which many other workers have been forced to resort to. It would be a shame. Please save us.
