KASESE district may soon be hit by famine, an official from the Catholic Relief Services, (CRS) Johnson Mbogha, has said, reports John Nzinjah.
Mbogha said, “The maize, groundnuts, beans, banana plantations and other crops are all dried up. Famine is going to hit most areas in this district.”
Most food-growing areas in the district have received little rain this season. The most are Bukonzo East and West especially in Kiburara in Kisinga, Kabirizi in Kyalhumba and Kyinyamaseke in Munkunyu sub-county.
Others are Katholhu in Nyakiyumbu sub-county and Bwera and Karambi sub-counties in Bukonzo west.
Along the road in Kisinga and the Kasese-Mpondwe highway in Munkunyu, Nyakiyumbu and Bwera, there are vast fields of maize, beans and groundnuts withering due to the dry season.
