SIR — On May 3, Face Technologies ran an advertisement of their charges for driving permits ranging from sh4,000 for a learners permit to sh55,000 for conversion from old to new. With due respect, Face Technologies is a rip-off. What they do not tell the public in their advert is that their charges are over and above the money you pay to URA.
Face technologies is charging between sh20,000–55,000 for a plastic card on which they write a driver’s particulars. It is not even computerised! it cannot store data like your ATM card at the bank. All it has is a bar code like the NSSF cards which NSSF issued free of charge. That bar code can be written on any kind of paper, even manilla. In fact, The new Vision newspapers now have bar codes and yet they are on newsprint! (check the back pages). Someone must investigate this matter.
