Many of the revellers who turned up at Club Silk’s street bash last weekend can admit that The East African Bashment Crew’s performance was one of the night’s highlights. Bebe Cool and Kenyan duo Wyre and Nazizi awed fans with their stage acts.
The trio sampled some of their new songs, including Fire Anthem and Africa Unite, taken off their maiden CD Africa Unite, which will hit the market soon. The album, which the group would rather refer to as a chapter and thus chapter one, promises to be a huge success.
On Kubbe, a hot and fast dancehall song, Nazizi raps about situations affecting Rastafarians, while Bebe Cool represents the Bad Boy image and Wyre does his love style thing. There is also Gunshot, which is about violence and weapons. The album is essentially reggae, dancehall and lovers’ rock.
Cool said the follow up would also be out soon. “We will immediately embark on the second chapter after this.†He said The East African Bashment Crew would be going international, but still keeping in touch with the locals as well.
For Nazizi, the music speaks for itself. “It’s a good album. The more tracks we do together, the more we understand each other. It is going to be the best reggae album here. We will soon release the Fire Anthem video in Nairobi. We always release songs here first then in Kenya.â€Â
Necessary Noise, Wyre and Nazizi haven’t released any new material. “We are working on solo projects, having launched our self-titled album in 2001. We will release our third album next year. I will do reggae and hip-hop with Washington and Homeboyz respectively,†Nazizi said.
