SECURITY was tight at parliament yesterday as Ruhama MP First Lady Janet Museveni took oath, as the swearing-in ceremony entered day two amid colour and pomp.

SECURITY was tight at parliament yesterday as Ruhama MP First Lady Janet Museveni took oath, as the swearing-in ceremony entered day two amid colour and pomp.
Janet, who was accompanied by her husband President Yoweri Museveni, caused a stir as she arrived in a convoy of jeeps.
Former ministers Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, Beatrice Wabudeya, Isaac Musumba, Hope Mwesigye and Adolf Mwesige, MPs and their supporters queued and were subjected to rigorous checks.
Unlike on day one, the presidential Guard Brigade backed by regular Police and Special Police Constables took charge of security. There was also rooftop surveillance on Development House, Bauman House and on the parliament building.
Janet took the oath as the brass band played a martial fanfare, to which army spokesman Maj. Felix Kulayigye explained, “Although the tune is played for the UPDF representatives, it’s also sounded for people with special status in the army, which the First Lady is.â€
But the highlight of the day was festivity and the pomp that characterised the occasion as several MPs arrived at the venue in style.
FDC’s Nandala Mafabi, Reagan Okumu, Michael Ocula and Latigo Ogenga arrived carried shoulder-high by their supporters accompanied by traditional dance groups and brass bands.
