By Carol Natukunda THE Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has donated textbooks worth sh20m to its Kampala-based Aga Khan High School. The textbooks will be used by the International Baccalaureate diploma programme, the equivalent of Uganda’s A’ level. AKDN is a group of development agencies operating in several Asian and African countries to promote education and health. Handing over the books to students at the campus library, the head of education at the school, Margaret Bell, yesterday challenged students to handle scholastic materials cautiously. “Some spill food and water on the textbooks and they get torn in the process. Treat the books as your friends, because they are going to help you. You are not the last person to use them. Have a sense of responsibility,†Bell said. She said achieving high quality education was a multi-dimensional issue to be fought for by students and teachers. She said there was need to enhance the reading culture among children, saying it would promote independence. Ends
