ATANUS Mugerwa leads Lukanga boxing club’s onslaught in defence of Mukwanga Cup boxing championship that gets underway at Lugogo today.
The event is a tune-up for the Bombers’ bantamweight after his stint at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Mugerwa was boxer among those who featured at the Commonwealth Games to weigh in at Lugogo yesterday. The others including bronze medallist Martin Mubiru (flyweight), lightweight Eddy Akora and featherweight Sharif Bogere did not show up.
The one-week tournament will have Rio Sports Academy making their debut in the ring. The Naguru side, handled by Charles Lubulwa and Joseph Mumba has fielded a team 15 like Kiggwe. Lukanga leads the entry tally with 20 boxers.
The championship involves 120 boxers from 10 clubs including Mengo, COBAP, KBC, East Coast, Kololo, and Jack Beez.
