Tribute to a great woman

WHAT better day to celebrate the life testimony of a great woman than on the day of her victory thanksgiving, in the midst of her beloved people. The people of this beautiful constituency.

WHAT better day to celebrate the life testimony of a great woman than on the day of her victory thanksgiving, in the midst of her beloved people. The people of this beautiful constituency.

This is a small tribute from a child to her mother – her much beloved mother. By the age of 24, Mama had lost her whole family; her father, brother and mother. Orphaned, in the worldly sense. At this age, God brought a valiant young man into her life, and this man became her family.

In foreign lands, with her husband by her side at times, and at times he would be far from her, fighting for the liberation of their homeland. With little children, by the grace of Almighty God, she pulled through. She spent years in exile with a young family separated from our father as he also tirelessly fulfilled his calling but through it all, she stood with grace and great dignity.

After the liberation of Uganda, before we had even moved back from exile, Mama had set her heart and sights on the fatherless of this land. The thousands of children who had been left orphaned by wars and disease …. And she came home and did her best, even to this day, to care for these children.

Today, I stand in this congregation Mummy, as your child, your daughter, to say I am proud of you!! You have weathered storm after storm, been hit by wave after wave, you have battled devils of all kinds, but the God you chose to believe is God indeed! As stated in Psalms 23, “He prepares a table for you in the presence of your enemies, He anoints your head with oil, your cup runneth over … Surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the day of your life, and you shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

You truly are a woman of substance. A person of incredible faith, a woman warrior of immense courage. A wonderful mother and grandmother. Our friend indeed.

You have raised us in the way of the Lord and now that we are old, we shall not depart from it. Your prayers Mummy have protected Daddy, and us and all loved ones. Your prayers have touched and blessed a nation. Your prayers have spared many from God’s wrath. We, your family, have been called “religious fanatics” by some, but let it be known that we would rather walk in the darkness with JESUS than walk in the light on our own. Blessed is the person whose steps are directed by the Lord God.
I now call my sister and brother, brothers-in-law, and my husband to come and stand here with me. Unfortunately, we all couldn’t be here today.

Proverbs 31: 28, “Her children rise up and call her blessed”

Today Mummy, we your children, those whom you bore and those whom God added to you, we rise up and call you blessed! And we stand here to bless you and the people of Ruhama. We profess and confess that “you shall be blessed when you come in and blessed when you got out. The Lord will command the blessing on you (all) in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand … and He will bless you in the land which He is giving you.” (Deut. 28)

You have received beauty for ashes Mummy, and strength for fear. You have been giving gladness for mourning and peace for despair.

Like Job, the Lord has doubled your portion. He is now your Father and Mother. He gave you a friend in Daddy your husband. The people of Uganda are your brothers and sisters, and we the children, your children and the children of this nation…. This is now your family, and what a family it is! So sail on Silver Girl, your time has come to shine. We love you, we honour you and we bless you.
