UGANDA succumbed to the experience of the Syrians in round 3 of the chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy on Tuesday.
The defeat leaves Uganda, ranked 114, at 4 points with the Syrians, rated 84, up at 7 in chess’ biggest world competition.
National champion Moses Kawuma was the only shining light as he drew with FIDE master Adel Omearat on board 4.
But Steven Kawuma went down to Ahmad Hamad on board 1, Shadrack Kantinti was humbled by another FIDE master Samir Mohammed on board 2 while Isaac Munanira lost to International master Imad Hakki on board 3.
The defeat came a day after the Kampala team secured its first win, 3.5-0.5 against the Chinese Taipei team, ranked 144.
The world’s biggest chess show drew over 100 teams, currently led by three teams including the number one side Russia.
The leaders together with the number two side China and Uzbekistan, ranked 30, have won all three matches so far and are 10.5 points.
Ten more rounds will be held at the bi-annual competition due to end on June 4.
