KASESE district chairperson the Rev. Canon Julius Kithaghenda has started talks to reconcile the pro and the anti-Bakonzo/Bamba cultural institution (obusinga bwa Rwenzururu).

He said talks with the minority ethnic tribes, especially the Basongora, the Banyabindi in Kasese district and the Bamba in Bundibugyo district, have started to pave way for a harmonious ushering in of a recognised Rwenzururu Kingdom.

He was on Monday addressing members of the Obusinga Recognition Council, who had gathered at the Obusinga palace in Kasese.

The meeting was held to review the progress of the demand for recognition of the cultural institution.

Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, MP for Bukonzo West, last week announced that he had changed heart towards the Obusinga.
Kiyonga had been the arch anti-Obusinga personality, supported by the minority ethnic tribes in the Rwenzori region.

Kithaghenda hails from Busongora county, where over 99% of the residents support the Obusinga.

The Banyabindi are said to have held a consultation meeting with the retired Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese Zebedee Masereka as the Bakyingwe and Baholhu met at Verina gardens Hotel over the same issue.

Council chairman Costantine Bwambale urged political leaders in the Rwenzori region to develop a spirit of reconciliation.

He challenged the politicians to champion the recognition of the Obusinga, describing it as an everlasting identity of the people.
