UGANDA failed to overcome another hurdle and went down to a well drilled Malaysian team at the chess Olympiad on Wednesday.

The defeat was the third for the Ugandans ranked 114 after four rounds in Turin, Italy.

Uganda is still glued at four points from the 3.5-0.5 victory over lowly Taipei and the 0.5-3.5 defeat against Syria ranked 84.

Malaysia ranked 83, moved up to eight points from two wins and two draws.

The Malaysians put their skill to use with Hafizulhelmi Mas beating former national champion Stephen Kawuma on board 1.
Tze Meng outwitted Shadrack Kantinti on board 2, Yee Weng beat Isaac Munanira on board 3 before Nazreen Bakri subdued Joe Kaamu.

But Kaamu’s team still has nine more rounds to salvage the country’s image at the world’s premier chess show.

At the sametime, the top ranked Russians and the number three team Armenia continued their progress to draw level at the top at 13.5 points.
