POLICE FC brightened Uganda’s chances of winning a consecutive CECAFA club title by ejecting Kenyan army side Ulinzi in the semi-final here yesterday.
Juma Lubega and Umar Kasule were the cops’ goal heroes in a match that also laid ground for a second title in Tanzania for coach Sam Timbe.
Timbe was in charge of the SC Villa side that won the $60,000 Paul Kagame sponsored competition in the Tanzanian lakeside town of Mwanza in 2005.
Police are already assured of at least $20,000. The winner in this annual event walks away with $30,000 while the third placed side gets $10,000.
Right winger Lubega fired the Ugandan league champions into the lead in the first half. Kasule later mesmerised the stadium by netting after a defence splitting build-up with Peter Senyonjo.
The more physical Ulinzi were torn wide open by their opponents’ short passing attacks, which the Ugandans have been polishing after every game.
Police were spurred on by FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa and Uganda’s ambassador to Tanzania Ibrahim Mukiibi.
