THE man who moulded the Cranes into an African soccer power in the sixties and seventies believes he can reverse Uganda’s fortunes.
Burkhard Pape said on Friday that he knows exactly what Ugandan football requires, and is for that reason ready for the Cranes coaching job.
“I’m very interested in the job,” said Pape (above) on phone from his home in Germany.
Pape, who was in charge of the Cranes from 1967 to 1972, described Uganda as his second home.
“I think I’m the right man because I know exactly where Uganda’s potential lies,” insisted the German who laid the foundation that had Uganda reaching the Nations Cup final in 1978.
Pape laid the structure that had the Cranes dominating East and Central Africa before rising into a power in the Nations Cup where they won silver in the 1978 final.
