Local software experts have exhibited a new computer server system dedicated to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The SME server software, the first of its kind in Uganda, was unveiled at the second Open Source Software (OSS) weekend at the Uganda Institute of Communication and Technology in Nakawa, Kampala.
Servers are some of the most expensive computer components in Uganda. The server links several computers to one main computer. Several organisations including the Government have parted with billions of shillings to have servers.
The SME server is a free and open source software product.
James Wire Lungabo, one of the organisers of the event, said the new initiative would revolutionise the local software market.
