Poor Kategaya might have blundered

SIR — The recent ministerial appointment of Eriya kategaya (right) in President Museveni’s ‘third term’ government reveals a lot about kategaya’s character. It portrays him as an unprincipled person. When he was sacked in 2003 he stood his ground and was admired for it. His bravery and independent mind at the time depicted him as a scarce commodity in a country where people can easily trade their souls for money. Many people saw him as a role model. However, his about-turn has made the public suspicious as to his intentions when he opposed the third term. This makes the man once considered a de facto number two in the NRM hierarchy lose not only his credibility but public trust as well. Poor Kategaya’s u-turn may be the last nail in his political coffin. museveni might have just used him to gain political mileage for the NRM which has lost popularity and might dump him again sooner than he expects!
