DPP drops treason cases against four

THE Director of Public Prosecution yesterday dropped terrorism charges against four suspected Allied Democratic Forces rebels.

THE Director of Public Prosecution yesterday dropped terrorism charges against four suspected Allied Democratic Forces rebels.

Ismail Nuhu of Namirembe, Ahmed Twalibu Sengendo of Bunamwaya, Muhamedi Kasozi of Katumuze village in Kabale and Mohamed Nagoba of Makulubita parish in Luweero, were freed after they applied for amnesty.

Buganda Road Court Magistrate Stella Amabilis said, “The charges are hereby withdrawn against all the accused persons.”

In a letter dated May 25, to the Chief Magistrate of Buganda Road Court, the DPP said he had discontinue proceedings against the accused under the amnesty act, The suspects had been accused of providing financial support to the ADF, a group which was planning to overthrow the government by force.

The suspects were also accused of providing intelligence information to the rebels, who were operating in western Uganda and in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
