Six men were arrested at Najjanakumbi, a city suburb on the Kampala-Entebbe road, in a week-long operation headed by Katwe police station boss Amos Gumisiriza.
Addressing a press conference at the Central Police Station, Kampala Extra commander Grace Turyagumanawe said they had arrested Mudda Olinayani from Nigeria, Cyrus Luzinda, Richard Mukiibi, Moses Lubega, Pascal Kakooza and Rashid Juuko.
The Police impounded four luxury vehicles from the fraudsters. A photocopying machine, liquid and polythene bags used in making black dollars were recovered from Juuko’s home.
The men appeared at Nakawa Court on Friday on charges of obtaining money by false pretence. They were remanded at Luzira Prison.
“After a demonstration with genuine dollars, they tell the victims that they can make dollars but they lack money for materials. The victim then pays money but he is given fake dollars,†he said.
Meanwhile, Arafat Kaddu, a man suspected of conning people by claiming that he would help them get visas to the United States, has also been arrested. Ends
