CECAFA champions Police made an unfashionable return to the domestic stage with a draw against struggling Bunamwaya yesterday.

Police, who are also Super League champions, went behind after Alex Katete converted a 41st minute penalty at Wankulukuku stadium.

Visiting Police however escaped defeat following a brilliant header by Peter Senyonjo six minutes after the interval. Police return to action on Friday against Kampala United.

At Namboole stadium, Super Cubs further enhanced their reputation for taming domestic football’s traditional giants after holding a confident SC Villa 2-2.

The league debutantes, who had earlier held leaders Express 1-1 before drawing 1-1 against KCC FC, scored through a brace from Christopher Njuki.

Costa Kadenge’s brace could do little to change Villa’s fortunes in a game played at breathtaking pace and dominated by dangerous counter-attacks.

Meanwhile, KCC plans to avenge their 3-0 first round defeat at the hands of Simba today. Coach Jackson Mayanja guides his side against a Simba side still unsure about the fitness of key figures Hassan Wassa, Robert Tumusiime, Mubarak Tenywa, Abby Mayanja, Sula Lwanga and Eddie Ssebalatta.

“This is the wrong time for us to face Simba. I honestly cannot tell what to expect in the game,” Mayanja said.

Meanwhile, Mbale Heroes team manager Robert Watuwa has expressed worry over a long two-week break given to his players before they return to action against Police FC in Kampala on June 15.

“It is a massive challenge to keep players for over two weeks without playing competitive matches,” Watuwa complained on phone yesterday.
