STUCK in a traffic jam with the kickoff of a World Cup match a minute away? Just ask someone at home to pause the game.

With just hours to the 2006 FIFA World Cup kick-off, MultiChoice has unveiled a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) that enables subscribers to pause, record and rewind live television broadcasts.

“The PVR is a next-generation decoder that places the power of choice and control in the hands of DStv viewers themselves.

“Pause live TV, answer the telephone, make a sandwich, pop out to the shop and continue watching where you left when you come back” MultiChoice marketing manager Peter Mungoma said at the launch of the PVR at Kabira Country Club yesterday.

The PVR has all features of a dual-view decoder incorporated with a hard drive on which up to 80 hours of video can be recorded.

The PVR also enables one to watch two different channels on different sets live while recording a third channel.
The PVR was developed by MultiChoice in conjunction with their partners, Altech’s UEC Technologies.

A complete set goes for $732 (sh1.3m) and for a single-view subscriber it goes for $680 (sh1.2m). Monthly access fee is $76 (sh140,000).
