THE Ministry of Education and Sports last week received 500 copies of the local soap opera, Hand in Hand, to be used in a campaign aimed at changing the attitude of students towards vocational training.
Hand in Hand, which ran on WBS TV every Sunday from October to December last year, now runs on UBC TV every Thursday at 8:30pm.
German Education and Training (GET) team leader Helmut Heinen on Tuesday handed over for circulation among schools 500 DVDs of the film to Commissioner for education Yusuf Nsubuga. Heinen also gave the Uganda Private institutions Association director, Emmanuel Bampigga, 50 copies of the film.
Present at the ceremony, which took place at the German Technical Co-operation (GTZ) offices in Nakasero, was Eng. Henry Okinyal, the assistant commissioner in charge of technical training.
Heinen said a survey carried out countrywide had indicated that children’s attitudes towards vocational education changed after watching the soap opera.
“Many of the interviewees commented that the film was both educative and entertaining and that they would want to see it again,” said Heinen.
Nsubuga said the German government and its agencies had greatly contributed to the improvement of technical and vocational training in Uganda.
