GENERAL duties minister Adolf Mwesige has lashed out at critics in Kabarole district for saying his ministerial appointment was a demotion.
Speaking at Heroes Day celebrations at Boma grounds in Fort Portal, Mwesige said his new duties included coordination of government offices and inspection of government-funded projects.
“If I can recommend the dismissal of a project manager, I am not a small person,” he said, reacting to remarks by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) members in Kabarole, who had made statements on Voice of Toro radio that his post was a demotion.
“Being a general duties minister has made me free and not tied in one place. I have a variety of work to do,” Mwesige, who was the constitutional affairs state minister in the former Cabinet, said.
He said he was well-placed and not anyone could have the opportunity to get where he had reached.
“In Uganda there are 28 million people, 315 Members of Parliament, 69 ministers, 44 state ministers and 25 cabinet ministers, where I belong. Not everyone has the opportunity to become what I am today,” he said.
Present were the area MPs Stephen Kaliba and Stephen Kagwera. Others were district Police commander Musana Munene and RDC Charles Chemasuet.
