TIMBER traders in Mukono industrial area have lost over sh120m in timber confiscated by the National Forestry Authority (NFA), writes Robert Kalemba.

The timber traders’ association chairman, Abdul Mayanja, said this while addressing journalists at his offices in Mukono Town Council on Saturday.

Mayanja said most timber traders had abandoned the business and resorted to other businesses due to the high pressure from NFA.

He said that recently, over six lorries were confiscated by armed military men in an operation in the industrial areas of Mukono town, while other surrounding stores in the town and those in schools were also affected.

Mayanja said the NFA lacks modalities while confiscating the timber because some timber is got from peoples’ land and not the forestry reserves.
