JINJA’s Black Monster weightlifting club lifted the national championship for the third time running at Nsambya Sharing Hall on Sunday, taking the trophy for keeps.

JINJA’s Black Monster weightlifting club lifted the national championship for the third time running at Nsambya Sharing Hall on Sunday, taking the trophy for keeps.
Six other clubs took part in the event where Black Monster bagged 317 points followed by Kasubi Physique with 200 and Nakivubo 173.
Kisugu earned 133, Kasubi Muslim 88 and Kayogera 45.
The highly-attended meet was characterised by improved performances, where Mariam Nalubanga of Monster beat her Melbourne Commonwealth Games record, moving from 160 to 165 total. The 75-kg category lifter improved in the clean and jerk.
Ismail Katamba of Kasubi Physique was also man of the day, beating his Melbourne personal best of 217 to 233 kg.
“The two automatically qualify for the Commonwealth weightlifting championship in Samoa due July 11-15th’’, said the federation secretary Salim Musoke.
Irene Ajambo did not participate due to injury.
The event was sponsored by Suresh Pai of Elite Nutrition Centre of Dubai.
Nakivubo won in wrestling followed by Black Monster, Entebbe and Kasubi Physique.
