KAMPALA Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) women were Uganda’s most impressive side at the Rwanda Genocide Memorial tournament won by Nairobi City Council (NCC) in Kigali on Sunday.
KAVC for the second time reached the last four – winning $500 (sh0.9m).

KAVC women, who reached the semifinals as pool A winners, fell to eventual champions NCC to settle for fourth prize.

The Ugandan women had beaten Burundi’s CXR and local rivals Kampala City (KCC) in straight sets but lost to University of Rwanda 1-2 in the preliminaries.

NCC beat University of Rwanda to pocket $1,500 (sh2.7m) top prize while the losers walked off $1000 (sh1.8m) richer.

In the men’s five-set final that lasted two-hours Rwanda Patriotic Army (APR) beat fellow country men Kigali VC 3-2 to walk away with the top prize.

Six Ugandan teams and three from Kenya joined seven home sides in the annual prized tournament attended on invitation.
