IT was the struggle of the curse of the supernatural against the human will as Trinity College Nabbingo put up Ola Rotimi’s play, Gods Are Not to Blame at Ndere Centre over the weekend.

Questions on whether the play is just African or a merely human phenomenon came to light, but the drama left many pondering along these lines.

All the same, it remained a reminder of that great Greek tale, Oedipus the King. What was clearly African was the stage set up. It was beyond the expected, for the “male” characters, especially Evas Natukunda, had masculinity splash from their very veins.

For girls, Sophie Namanda had very little trouble in playing their feminine roles. And when parents and other theatregoers applauded at the end, it was clear the director, Maria Okello, set her sights to another production next year. Till then!
