Can my husband quit alcohol?
What drug can I give my husband to stop him from drinking alcohol? I have tried herbs, and he refuses to go to hospital. Can I buy any drug over the counter for him?
Kate

Dear Kate,
Treatment of alcoholism is a long-term project. It does not rely on any one drug. The victim has to understand that he or she has a problem and needs help. They should be persuaded to go into a programme to solve the problem. This involves counselling, modifying the home environment and finding solutions to other problems.
Drugs can help but they cannot be used alone, for example there is a drug that makes a person sick if he takes it and then takes alcohol. Your husband would have to agree to take it daily, otherwise it will not work. I suggest that you treat this like a big project. Get help from friends and relatives. Consult a doctor and counsellor or psychiatrist. It is not easy, but you can try.

Help, I always feel dizzy, tired
I have been getting problems like dizziness, fatigue, and joint pains. They are shortlived but bother me. Medical checks show nothing. What could be my problem?
Mark

Dear Mark,
Could it be stress? It is one of the most neglected causes of such symptoms. Lots of things stress us. For a student, it can be exams, school fees, feeding, difficulties at home or relationships. Employees get stressed at work, when unemployed or if there is not enough money. Stress causes symptoms but when we go for check-ups, nothing shows up. We still feel sick, tired and exhausted. The solution is knowing what is stressing you. If you cannot solve it immediately, learn how to deal with it. Don’t take your body for granted; get time to rest and exercise regularly. Create time for rest daily, and relax at least once a week. If the problem persists, talk to your doctor or a counsellor.

Will I enjoy sex after circumcision?
Dear Doctor,
My penis frenulum is so big that when erect the penis is pulled downwards, which makes me have problems during sex. What can I do to enjoy sex? Would circumcision help?
JJ

Dear JJ,
The penis frenulum is the strip of skin that starts from the underside of the head of the penis and crosses the groove to get to the shaft of the penis. Its function is to pull back the foreskin over the head. It is unusual for it to be as big as you describe. It can certainly be trimmed.
Circumcision is the removal of the foreskin, that loose skin that starts from the penis shaft and covers the head (glans) of the penis. When circumcision is done, the frenulum is trimmed. Talk to a surgeon and see what he or she advises.
