THE commonwealth secretary general, Don McKinnon will on Monday arrive for talks with President Yoweri Museveni.

A statement from the Commonwealth Secretariat said yesterday McKinnon would also hold talks with the leader of the opposition in parliament, Prof. Morris Ogenga Latigo.

Speaking on the eve of his departure, McKinnon said, “ I will be holding talks with President Museveni on a wide range of issues, including preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kampala next year. At the summit, the President will be taking on the role of Commonwealth Chairperson-in-Office. The government of Uganda will also host the 8th women’s affairs ministerial meeting in June next year. There are a number of issues to discuss.” McKinnon last visited Uganda in April 2005.

His Monday visit was preceded by a trip this year of a Commonwealth Secretariat team led by the deputy secretary-general, Florence Mugasha, to discuss the progress in preparations for CHOGM. A press conference will be held on Tuesday at Sheraton Hotel.
