By Flavia Nakagwa GEN. Salim Saleh has said it is hard for a poor person to be a good Christian. “You cannot be a good Christian if you are poor. I am very religious because of my mother,” Saleh said.

Saleh also appealed to Pastor Robert Kayanja to pray for him not to lose his new ministerial post.

Saleh, the state minister for microfinance, was speaking at the Girl Power Business Convention at Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral on Saturday.

“Pastor Kayanja, you have to pray a lot so that I am not sacked from my ministry,” Saleh said.

Girl Power Ministries (GPM) is an interdenominational ministry founded by Kayanja’s wife Jessica. The guests included the Diana Kamuntu and Natasha Karugire, President Yoweri Museveni’s daughters, and finance minister Ezra Suruma, the Presidential Principal Private Secretary Amelia Kyambadde and Prof. Frederick Sempebwa.

Saleh commended Pastor Jessica Kayanja for organising the event whose theme was: “She considers a field and buys it” from Proverbs 31.

However, saleh wondered why the function was for women only and advised her to organise one for men too.

Saleh’s coffee paper bags were on display at the exhibition that attracted several companies.

Some 30 women from Ntungamo exhibited onions. Saleh said the group approached him before he became a minister seeking market for their onions.

Suruma urged women not to be afraid, but to believe in God, focus on quality and service.

He urged Christians to always be honest and fair because the times were hard and would become even harder, but there was need to endure to succeed.

“Many of us are under serious pressure far beyond our ability to endure, but we will succeed nonetheless,” he said. Nalongo Kezia Bukirwa of Katwe won an award for being an exemplary woman in selling traditional dishes for a long period of time.

Bukirwa urged young people not to despise any job, saying she had humble beginnings.
