NYAKAYOJO Secondary School in Mbarara has earmarked sh91m to construct a girls’ dormitory.
The headmaster, James Tweheyo, said during the ground breaking ceremony that the storeyed dormitories would accommodate about 500 girls and would have running water.
“We intend to provide girls a state-of-the-art accommodation to encourage their love for study,†Tweheyo said.
Present at the function was the headmistress of Mary Hill High School, Margret Atim and Mbarara High School headmaster Nathan Kateeba and Stanbic bank Mbarara branch manager Connie Mugizi was the chief guest.
Mugizi said Stanbic bank would provide funds in loans to any school which is promoting education values.
Nyakayojo Secondary School in Rwampara county has a population of 605 students of which 60% are girls.
President Yoweri Museveni recently visited the school and promised to build a science laboratory.
This was because Museveni was impressed by the school’s academic performance and initiative to promote girl child education.
