UGANDA will host the Africa junior chess championship in 2007, the second time since 1999.

The U-20 competition, bringing together the continent’s elite youngsters, is set for next November.

Former Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) chairman Enock Barumba presented a bid to host the event before he was replaced at the UCF polls last year.

Last month, Barumba travelled with the national team for the Olympiad in Italy to follow up the bid.

The world chess governing body FIDE eventually approved the bid.
“It is a great honour to host the event. it will help our youngsters to improve their game,” Barumba explained.

There will be a qualifying tournament next year to pick a team for the competition.
