Desire Luzinda is probably best known for her ‘Weekender’ programme on WBS TV every Saturday afternoon.
The 21-year-old presenter is now also into music. She has released her two maiden singles, Nakoowa Emikwano and Weekend Party. Luzinda could be headed for bigger things because her songs are already rotating on local FM radios like Sanyu, Dembe, Star and CBS.
The fact that Luzinda’s voice was able to impress tycoon Gordon Wavamunno who paid the studio fees for her two debut singles at Steve Jean’s Fenon Records shows how much potential she has.
In the gently tilting Nakoowa Emikwano, the singer regrets having trusted her friends, who betrayed her. She opts to settle alone and keep her secrets to herself. This is an afrobeat tune given a modern rhythm and blues feeling, thanks to the unprecedented production skills of Steve Jean.
Weekend Party, which features local dancehall star Mr. Mosh, will force even those who profess to hate dancehall music secretly tap their feet. It is a fusion of RnB and dancehall.
So, is Luzinda really that good? To be honest, she is even better than one would imagine. And while most debut efforts pass unnoticed, hers will certainly defy all odds.
