Advice from prefects II

Jul 07, 2006

I would tell someone going to be a prefect that there are many duties. So be ready for that responsibility.

There are too many duties to do, as a leader there is work in class and during lunch break. If you want to be a leader, you must be willing to work with others as a team because the work is too much. I usually go to different classes and talk to the pupils especially when teachers are having a meeting.
Be ready to have other prefects stand in for you at times, which means a prefect should be cooperative.

The biggest challenge I have met is, some children disrespect prefects. I am a prefect in P4 and some pupils in higher classes look down on me. It becomes a bit hard ruling children.
Another challenge is friends. They are the ones who go for adventures because they know you are friends and you find it hard to punish them.
There are also some notorious prefects that do not set a good example for other children to follow.

Before you become a prefect, you should know that you have to be capable. Look at your academics, if you score aggregate 4, 5, 6, or 7, then you are good enough to stand. With leadership, you are always up and down. Are you able to go to the head teacher and talk to him without fear? Can you talk to teachers and children without fear? Able to tell people what to do without fearing them.
Are you able to work properly with others, for example telling the prefects what to do without bossing over them?
If you are to make a good prefect, you should not be a fearful person.
