SIR — On July 6, the new Vision published a letter entitled “Kadaga, relocate to Kenya”.
In the letter the writer attacks Ms Rebecca kadaga rather unfairly for her comparison of the remuneration of the Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan Members of Parliament. The writer dis not take into account the background against which the Deputy Speaker’s statements were made.
Ms kadaga was meeting a delegation of Tanzanian MPs who asked her to compare the privileges of the kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan MPs. It is in response to this that she explained that Ugandan MPs are paid far less than their counterparts in Tanzania and Kenya.
At no point did she request for a pay rise in the meeting, for she is not employed by the tanzanian Parliament.
The deputy Speaker is fully aware of Uganda’s economic situation and knows the steps to take
when requesting for a pay rise. Besides, she is committed to working in Uganda irrespective of her pay.
