INCREASED collections in June boosted the Uganda Revenue Authority’s (URA) efforts to beat the earlier anticipated cumulative revenue deficit.
The tax body had expected a deficit because of the current energy crisis that has hit the companies’ productivity.
Frank Katusiime, the assistant commissioner for research and planning, said the improved performance rode on the back of high domestic and international collections.
“We collected sh277.06b in June against sh253.77b target, posting a surplus of sh23b for the 2005/06 year,” Katusiime said.
. Most taxpayers tried to settle their tax matters especially income taxes before the close of the year. June’s performance lifted our collections to offset the anticipated cumulative deficit of sh22.9b at the end of May 2006,” Katusiime said.
Patrick Mukiibi, URA’s Assistant Commissioner Public and Corporate affairs said they surpassed their annual target by sh790m.
