SEVEN UPDF soldiers have been arrested in connection with the escape of treason suspects from Makindye Military Police barracks two weeks ago, reports Fortunate Ahimbisibwe.

In another development, a UPDF private, Abel Tusiime, also last week escaped with another soldier who was meant to guard him at Mbuya Army Barracks.

Reliable army sources said yesterday the soldiers who were guarding the Zzimwe Ward Section of the detention facility might have aided the suspects to escape.

Two of the suspects, WO II Sam Tugume and Pte Francis Sekatto were in jail for allegedly selling classified information.

They were being tried in the Division Court Martial at Mbuya.
Tugume had applied for amnesty but it was yet to be granted.
