KCC to destroy
KAWEMPE - The brick structures that army veterans put up at the Wandegeya Children’s Park are to be demolished, city authorities have resolved. Kawempe division chairman Nasser Takuba on Tuesday said they agreed in a meeting last Monday that the city council (KCC) should find an alternative location for the veterans. “Some of the people are not veterans while others are not Kawempe veterans. We shall only relocate those veterans who are from our division,” he said. Local government minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, mayor Nasser Sebaggala and resident district commissioner Stanley Kinyatta attended the meeting.

MUK exams
MAKERERE - Makerere University has reviewed the procedure for storage of examination answer sheets. Every academic department is expected to keep the scripts for only two years after each semester, Academic Registrar Amos Olal-Odur said in a statement recently. The move follows concern by the Senate that there is no space to keep the increased volumes of scripts, Olal-Odur added.

Vendors storm
NAKASERO - Vendors at Nakasero Market on Thursday stormed mayor Nasser Sebaggala’s office, seeking extension of the deadline for them to vacate the market’s parking yard. Over 20 vendors operating from the parking yard claimed that the city council was unfair to direct them to vacate the premises in a short time. Sebaggala, who said the vendors were working illegally at the yard, promised to help them get an alternative location.
