PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has directed that the first planned settlement model village with schools, a health centre, water, roads and electricity be piloted in Anaka sub-county, Nwoya county in Gulu (now Amuru) district, the RDC has said.

Walter Ochora said this last Tuesday while addressing residents of Anaka internally displaced people’s (IDP) camp on the current decongestion plan where by the Government has sent iron sheets for the resettlement of the IDPs in their home villages.

“The President has directed that the planned pilot settlement village in Gulu district should be initiated in Anaka, despite the fact that the people in the area did not vote for him and myself,” Ochora said.

Each model village will have a health centre, roads, schools, motorised pipe water, sewage line and electricity. The Government will provide iron sheets to IDPs without any political consideration,” Ochora quoted Museveni as having said.

The RDC, who is also chairman of the district security committee, assured the IDPs that the security situation in the district was now calm, which eased the decongestion programme.

He said the iron sheets would be given to households or families who are ready to voluntarily settle in their villages.
Ochora said the government would open up large chunks of lands around each village settlement, where each family would be given two acres of land to plant food crops.
