The Minister of Defence, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, has criticised what he called unrealistic MPs who just blame the Government for the sake of it.

Addressing residents at prayers to commemorate the first LRA attack in Teso at Obalanga in Amuria district on Saturday, Kiyonga said, “MPs and leaders in northern and eastern Uganda should stop finger-pointing, be realistic and appreciate progress and work with the Government to ensure further development in the area.”

He was responding to Teso MPs Alice Alaso, Elijah Okupa, Peter Omolo and Godfery Ekanya who had just criticised the Government, claiming it had neglected Teso for 20 years.

Kiyonga regretted the suffering in Teso at the hands of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.
“We resolve never to allow this kind of thing to happen again,” he said.

He said the LRA had been out of Teso for over a year and the problem in the area was now the Karimojong cattle rustlers.

“Progress has been made in dealing with Kony and his terrorists. He has fled to the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Government, out of the spirit of reconciliation, has agreed to make another attempt at peace talks with Joseph Kony. If the talks fail, UPDF will pursue Kony until we catch up with him,” Kiyonga said.
